  • Camp Creek Lake– Lying to the west of Seacrest Beach, it’s one of a series of 15 coastal dune lakes, which are bodies of water so rare they are only found in a handful of places around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Madagascar, and Northwest Florida, particularly in the South Walton Gulf-front area. These coastal dune lakes are said to have been formed 10,000 years ago by winds that redistributed the sands to create the shallow basins, and they are unique in the sense that their fresh water content sits just a few feet of the Gulf of Mexico’s salt water, separated only by a natural berm of sand. After a heavy rain, the sand berms are breached, causing an outfall where fresh water pours openly into the Gulf, and salty seawater also floods back into the dune lake, resulting in a rare brackish ecosystem that’s home to both fresh and salt water species of fish, which make these coastal dune lakes excellent fishing spots. Aside from fishing, Camp Creek Lake also offers bird watching, kayaking, canoeing, and stand up paddle boarding.
