30A Real Estate: Seaside FL Real Estate and Homes for Sale in Seaside FL

With its pastel colored beach cottages, sugar-spun beaches and idyllic ambiance, Seaside is the realization of the postcard-pretty beach life vacationer’s dream of. But there’s more to Seaside than a beach-perfect life.

For one thing, it has cinematic bragging rights. As the epitome of small-town America, Seaside rose to fame when it was chosen as the main location for the movie The Truman Show.

Located in the Florida Panhandle, this 80-acre master planned community is one of the Beaches of South Walton and is also one of the earliest cities designed using the principles of New Urbanism. Founder Robert S. Davis conceived the resort settlement to resemble historic Southern towns, designing the community’s layout to simulate traditional American settlement patterns.

Today, Seaside with its pedestrianized streets, colorful houses and bustling commercial center (which doubles as a town hall), is a prime example of that design sensibility. Oozing with small-town charm, but replete with all the modern amenities, Seaside is the perfect haven of beachside bliss.

Visitors to Seaside are naturally drawn to its Central Square, the town’s main activity area. Central Square houses the town’s post office as well as an amphitheater lawn, where community events like concerts, outdoor cinema screenings and a weekly Farmer’s Market are held. Scattered around the vicinity are boutiques that sell art as well as apparel and gift items, restaurants, a supermarket, and a bike rental place. Seaside is a walkable neighborhood where everything is accessible on foot or via bicycle.

Houses in Seaside are unique in architecture – no two are alike. Architectural influences range from Victorian to Neoclassical to postmodern, with a smattering of Old Florida touches here and there.

Those looking to buy property can choose vintage cottages with beautiful wraparound porches or opt for one of the more modern townhouses and condos.
